SUMMARY:Beyond the Individual: Translating Trauma Science into Community Action
DESCRIPTION:Riisa Rawlins will serve as a panelist alongside Trent Ball\, Meg Bamford\, Allison Williams and Emily Koenig for a conversation titled ” Beyond the Individual: Translating Trauma Science into Community Action” as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nAs our understanding of the neurobiology of trauma continues to evolve\, so too must our approach to healing. Trauma-informed communities recognize that relationships\, environments\, and systems play a critical role in promoting regulation\, resilience\, and recovery. Healing from trauma requires more than individual intervention – it requires communities and systems that foster safety\, connection\, resilience\, and equitable access to care. This interdisciplinary panel brings together leaders from behavioral health\, healthcare\, education\, social services\, and community organizations to explore how trauma science can be translated into meaningful action across systems to promote equity\, access and social justice. Panelists will discuss how collaborative\, trauma-informed approaches can strengthen communities\, improve mental health and growth outcomes\, and create lasting opportunities for healing and connectedness.\n\nLearning Objectives\nUpon completion of this session\, participants will be able to:\n\nIdentify systemic factors impacting communities and key principles of trauma-informed approaches that support the development of systems beyond individual clinical interventions.\n Examine the roles of interdisciplinary collaboration among behavioral health\, healthcare\, education\, social services\, and community organizations in promoting trauma-informed care\, resilience\, and equitable access to services.\n Describe evidence-informed strategies for translating trauma-informed principles into community and systems-level practices that strengthen connectedness\, improve mental health outcomes\, and promote long-term healing.\n\n\nClick here to learn more about the convening!

SUMMARY:Trauma Awareness in Action
DESCRIPTION:Bryan Davenport and Aja Owens will co-facilitate “Trauma Awareness in Action” as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nTrauma does not occur in isolation\, and healing cannot happen through individual efforts alone. Building trauma-informed systems requires collaboration across education\, behavioral health\, juvenile justice\, and community organizations while intentionally addressing the inequities that shape the experiences of children\, youth\, families\, and professionals. This interactive workshop explores how an equity-centered\, trauma-informed approach can strengthen relationships\, improve organizational practices\, and create coordinated systems of care that promote resilience and community healing throughout the St. Louis region. Participants will examine the intersection of trauma\, systemic inequities\, cultural humility\, and ethical practice while learning practical\, evidence-informed strategies that can be implemented across diverse settings. Through case studies\, guided reflection\, cross-sector discussion\, and collaborative activities\, attendees will identify opportunities to reduce re-traumatization\, foster psychological safety\, and strengthen partnerships that improve outcomes for children\, families\, and communities. Emphasizing collective responsibility and shared leadership\, this session equips clinicians\, educators\, social workers\, juvenile justice professionals\, administrators\, and youth advocates with actionable tools to build more responsive\, inclusive\, and healing-centered environments where equity and resilience are foundational to both practice and systems change. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nImplement actionable trauma-informed and equity-centered practices across mental health\, education\, juvenile justice\, and community organizations.\nStrengthen cross-sector collaboration by identifying opportunities to improve communication\, referrals\, and coordinated care.\nDeepen understanding of community healing through the lenses of social justice\, cultural humility\, ethical leadership\, and systems change.\n\nClick here to learn more about the convening!

SUMMARY:Understanding the St. Louis Mental Health Workforce: Community Insights and Actionable Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Courtney Dowdall and Molly Downing will co-facilitate “Understanding the St. Louis Mental Health Workforce: Community Insights and Actionable Solutions” with Dr. Matthew Ellis as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nThe mental health workforce in St. Louis faces significant and growing challenges\, including burnout\, high turnover\, and barriers to sustainable clinical practice. To better understand these challenges\, CCGF\, in partnership with Civic Insight and the Community Health Commission of Missouri (CHCM)\, has been actively engaged in mental health workforce research in the St. Louis region. This session will present findings from that ongoing work and invite clinicians to participate in a structured\, community-driven interpretation of what the data reveals. The session will be organized in two parts. First\, CCGF will present current findings from workforce research\, highlighting key patterns in how St. Louis clinicians experience their work\, manage professional demands\, and navigate systemic barriers. Second\, CHCM facilitators will lead an interactive participatory engagement process in which attendees collaboratively interpret the findings\, contextualize them within their own professional experiences\, and contribute to identifying actionable steps the St. Louis mental health community can take in response. Insights and recommendations generated during this session will inform CCGF’s future research and reporting on its findings. This session is designed for licensed mental health clinicians\, those who train\, employ\, or support clinicians\, and stakeholders invested in workforce development and data-driven solutions to the challenges facing the St. Louis mental health community. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe key findings from current mental health workforce research conducted in the St. Louis region.\nIdentify systemic and individual-level barriers affecting the sustainability of the mental health workforce in their local community.\nApply collaborative data interpretation skills by participating in a structured\, community-driven discussion to contextualize workforce research findings within one’s professional experience.\nDevelop actionable recommendations and strategies that address identified workforce challenges\, contributing to a shared set of next steps for the St. Louis mental health community.\n\nClick here to learn more about the convening!

SUMMARY:Healing is Everybody's Work: Storytelling\, Belonging\, and Community Voice as Catalysts for Health Equity
DESCRIPTION:Heartland Health Conference session facilitated by Grace Cobble and Danielle Binion\, featuring Hillary Harris and Sharla Smith as panelists. \nData tells us where disparities exist. Stories help us understand why they persist and what it takes to create systems where people feel seen\, heard\, valued\, and able to thrive. \nAcross the Heartland\, communities continue to experience inequities in healthcare access\, health outcomes\, and opportunities for well-being. While data is essential for understanding these challenges\, storytelling provides critical insight into the lived experiences behind the numbers and creates opportunities for connection\, healing\, and action. \nThis panel explores how storytelling can serve as a powerful strategy to advance health equity\, foster belonging\, strengthen trust\, and inform systems change. Through the Community Health Commission of Missouri’s Through Our Eyes storytelling initiative and regional screenings of the documentary Everybody’s Work\, community members\, healthcare professionals\, educators\, advocates\, and public health leaders have come together to elevate lived experience\, challenge assumptions\, and advance conversations about equity and belonging. \nPanelists will share lessons learned from engaging communities through storytelling\, discuss how narrative can influence policy and organizational decision-making\, and explore the role of belonging in creating healthier communities. Participants will leave with practical strategies for centering community voice\, translating stories into meaningful action to advance health equity. “No people without numbers and no numbers without people.”

SUMMARY:Reimagining Health Equity & Philanthropy in an Era of Structural Health Divestment
DESCRIPTION:Heartland Health Conference session featuring Danielle Binion as a panelist. \nAs historic health equity protections erode\, examine how leaders from Missouri and Kansas explore how funders and community systems can rebuild architectures of equity and resilience amid public health divestment\, ACA rollbacks\, and deepening public mistrust in health systems. This session will elevate the lived expertise of four health sector executives who are shaping the health equity landscape amid structural racism\, federal divestment\, and health system transformation. Each represents a distinct yet interconnected system in public health\, primary care\, community-led equity and healing\, and workforce development offering a comprehensive view of how philanthropy can shift from transactional to transformational partnership. Grounded in REACH Healthcare Foundation’s Partner in Action model\, this panel discussion will surface practical community-rooted strategies from Missouri and Kansas where urban and rural inequities converge and innovation is often born from scarcity.

SUMMARY:Building EC-TIC Organizations: From Awareness to Systems Change
DESCRIPTION:Heartland Health Conference Session facilitated by Danielle Small and Bryan Davenport \nAcross the Heartland\, organizations are facing unprecedented challenges related to workforce burnout\, community trauma\, health inequities\, staff retention\, and declining trust in institutions. While many organizations have embraced trauma-informed approaches\, fewer have explored how trauma intersects with equity\, systemic barriers\, and organizational culture. \nThis interactive training introduces participants to Equity-Centered Trauma-Informed Care (EC-TIC)\, a recognized framework developed and implemented by the Community Health Commission of Missouri as both the Missouri Model for Trauma-Informed Schools and the Missouri Model for Trauma-Informed Healthcare Systems. EC-TIC expands traditional trauma-informed approaches by examining how historical and structural inequities influence individual\, organizational\, and community experiences of trauma and resilience. \nParticipants will explore the science of trauma\, recognize the impact of adversity on health and organizational outcomes\, and learn practical strategies for creating environments that promote healing\, belonging\, and resilience. Through reflection activities\, case studies\, and facilitated discussions\, attendees will gain tools they can apply immediately in healthcare settings\, public health agencies\, schools\, community-based organizations\, and cross-sector partnerships. \nAs communities across Region VII work to reimagine resilience\, this session provides a roadmap for moving beyond awareness toward meaningful systems transformation.
