SUMMARY:Understanding the St. Louis Mental Health Workforce: Community Insights and Actionable Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Courtney Dowdall and Molly Downing will co-facilitate “Understanding the St. Louis Mental Health Workforce: Community Insights and Actionable Solutions” with Dr. Matthew Ellis as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nThe mental health workforce in St. Louis faces significant and growing challenges\, including burnout\, high turnover\, and barriers to sustainable clinical practice. To better understand these challenges\, CCGF\, in partnership with Civic Insight and the Community Health Commission of Missouri (CHCM)\, has been actively engaged in mental health workforce research in the St. Louis region. This session will present findings from that ongoing work and invite clinicians to participate in a structured\, community-driven interpretation of what the data reveals. The session will be organized in two parts. First\, CCGF will present current findings from workforce research\, highlighting key patterns in how St. Louis clinicians experience their work\, manage professional demands\, and navigate systemic barriers. Second\, CHCM facilitators will lead an interactive participatory engagement process in which attendees collaboratively interpret the findings\, contextualize them within their own professional experiences\, and contribute to identifying actionable steps the St. Louis mental health community can take in response. Insights and recommendations generated during this session will inform CCGF’s future research and reporting on its findings. DESCRIPTION:Bryan Davenport and Aja Owens will co-facilitate “Trauma Awareness in Action” as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nTrauma does not occur in isolation\, and healing cannot happen through individual efforts alone. Building trauma-informed systems requires collaboration across education\, behavioral health\, juvenile justice\, and community organizations while intentionally addressing the inequities that shape the experiences of children\, youth\, families\, and professionals. This interactive workshop explores how an equity-centered\, trauma-informed approach can strengthen relationships\, improve organizational practices\, and create coordinated systems of care that promote resilience and community healing throughout the St. Louis region. Participants will examine the intersection of trauma\, systemic inequities\, cultural humility\, and ethical practice while learning practical\, evidence-informed strategies that can be implemented across diverse settings. Through case studies\, guided reflection\, cross-sector discussion\, and collaborative activities\, attendees will identify opportunities to reduce re-traumatization\, foster psychological safety\, and strengthen partnerships that improve outcomes for children\, families\, and communities. Emphasizing collective responsibility and shared leadership\, this session equips clinicians\, educators\, social workers\, juvenile justice professionals\, administrators\, and youth advocates with actionable tools to build more responsive\, inclusive\, and healing-centered environments where equity and resilience are foundational to both practice and systems change. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nImplement actionable trauma-informed and equity-centered practices across mental health\, education\, juvenile justice\, and community organizations.\nStrengthen cross-sector collaboration by identifying opportunities to improve communication\, referrals\, and coordinated care.\nDeepen understanding of community healing through the lenses of social justice\, cultural humility\, ethical leadership\, and systems change.\n\nClick here to learn more about the convening!

DESCRIPTION:Riisa Rawlins will serve as a panelist alongside Trent Ball\, Meg Bamford\, Allison Williams and Emily Koenig for a conversation titled ” Beyond the Individual: Translating Trauma Science into Community Action” as part of the Chiron Community Giving Foundation (CCGF) Fourth Annual Community Convening. \nAs our understanding of the neurobiology of trauma continues to evolve\, so too must our approach to healing. Trauma-informed communities recognize that relationships\, environments\, and systems play a critical role in promoting regulation\, resilience\, and recovery. Healing from trauma requires more than individual intervention – it requires communities and systems that foster safety\, connection\, resilience\, and equitable access to care.
