Land Acknowledgment
Community Health Commission of Missouri Land Acknowledgement
The Community Health Commission of Missouri (CHCM) acknowledges that the communities where we live, work, achieve health, play, and partner throughout Missouri are located on the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary homelands of several Tribal and Indigenous Nations. These include, but are not limited to, the Kaskaskia, Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Washtáge Moⁿzháⁿ (Kaw / Kansa), Myaamia (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma), 𐓏𐒰𐓓𐒰𐓓𐒷𐒼𐓂𐓊𐒻𐓆𐒻𐒿𐒷𐓀𐒰^𐓓𐒰^ (Osage), Jíwere–Ñút’achi Máyaⁿ (Otoe-Missouria), O-ga-xpa Ma-zhoⁿ (O-ga-xpa) (Quapaw), and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Seven Council Fires, Sioux).
We honor their enduring sovereignty, continued presence, and contributions to advancing health equity.
As we work to eliminate health disparities, we recognize that meaningful acknowledgment also requires action through authentic partnership, creating space to hold truth, and sharing power with Indigenous communities. We are committed to honoring Indigenous knowledge, storytelling, and participatory approaches that strengthen community voice, healing, and equitable systems for future generations.
