ArchCity Defenders

Partnering for trauma-informed practices that support justice.

Ensuring equitable access to justice requires thoughtful, trauma-informed approaches that meet people where they are.

ArchCity Defenders (ACD) has long been at the forefront of legal advocacy for marginalized communities, and we were proud to support their efforts by providing document review, program assessments, and staff training.

Through this partnership, we worked to enhance ACD’s intake and service delivery processes, helping to make their legal assistance more accessible, effective, and responsive to client needs.

Supporting Trauma-Informed Legal Advocacy

ACD is dedicated to reimagining public safety and advocating for those most affected by systemic injustices. To further these efforts, ACD engaged our organization to conduct a thorough review of their internal processes, ensuring that their intake and service delivery methods align with best practices in equity-centered, trauma-informed care.

We provided:

  • A comprehensive review of ACD’s client intake paperwork and program resources to improve accessibility and effectiveness.
  • An audit of pilot program participants to assess how well services were meeting their needs and to identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Training and consultation for ACD staff to strengthen their trauma-informed approaches and ensure their processes reflect best practices in equity-centered service delivery.

Key Outcomes & Insights

Through this collaboration, we were able to:

  • Identify ways to improve language and processes to foster greater inclusivity and reduce potential harm to participants.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to enhance ACD’s ability to meet the evolving needs of their clients, including considerations for mental health resources, professional development for staff, and participant-centered service adaptations.
  • Offer guidance on making intake and consent processes more transparent, ensuring that individuals seeking legal assistance have a clear understanding of their rights and options.

The Impact of Our Collaboration

By integrating trauma-informed practices into their legal advocacy work, ACD continues to provide more effective and compassionate support to those navigating the justice system.
