Artist In Residence (AIR) of Equity

Embedding Arts in Justice
The Community Health Commission of Missouri (CHCM) is proud to partner with the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis (RAC) to host our first-ever Artist in Residence (AIR) program. Together, we recognize that art is a powerful tool for healing, storytelling, and advancing equity. This residency brings creative practice into our work of building healthier, more just communities across Missouri.
Through this partnership, a local artist will work with CHCM to explore the intersections of art, health, and equity. The Artist in Residence will co-create projects that uplift community voices, spark dialogue, and reflect the lived experiences of Missourians most impacted by health disparities.
This program builds on RAC’s commitment to strengthening the region through arts and culture, while expanding CHCM’s approach to equity-centered, trauma-informed care. By blending artistic practice with health equity strategies, we’re making space for imagination, expression, and collective healing.

Residency highlights and creative aims:
- A stipend available, up to $10,000
- $5,000 project and materials budget
- Hosting at least one community engagement event, such as storytelling circles, workshops, or installations
- Co-creating works informed by community voices and CHCM’s health equity data
- A final public showcase in June 2026
Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply—visual, literary, performance, multimedia, music, dance, and beyond. Applicants should live or work in the St. Louis region and demonstrate a commitment to community engagement, social practice, or interdisciplinary collaboration.
Join us in using art to create new ways to listen, heal, and act together for health equity.
